Phoenix

GOOOOD MORNING!

"You're broken down and tired/
Of living life on a merry go round/
And you can't find the fighter/
But I see it in you so we gonna walk it out..."

I don't want to make any assumptions about how you handle your life, but I would like to assume that you have insurance policies on various things in your life, right?

Home Owner's insurance.

Car insurance.

Life insurance.

Health insurance.

If you're fancy, you may have insurance on your body parts. It was rumored that Tina Turner has insurance on her legs and Steve Harvey has insurance on his voice... Celebrities!

Are you in good hands?

Are they like a good neighbor?

Maybe you've spoken to the General or Flo?

I want you to keep all of this in mind...

When we have insurance policies, we pay the premiums for the coverage of our items whether they're our fault or not. They're to cover the costs of damages, maybe the loss of something, or even death. In other words, insurance is ONLY effective if something bad actually happens!

And then you have to consider whether you want FULL-COVERAGE or LIABILITY. And  then consider everything that needs to be covered and the location of the items, what year was the house built? What color is the car? And countless other questions that'll affect the costs of your monthly payments.

But what if I told you about another insurance that you need to invest in that requires no money and a little time, would you be interested?

Have you talked to God?

Your premium payments are prayer and your policies are your prayer requests; safe travels for family and friends. Good health and indomitable will. Your life is COVERED!

You have guaranteed coverage for LIFE! Everything that has happened to you or will happen to you is already covered. You're protected by His love, grace, and His mercy!

Sounds amazing, doesn't it? I mean look at the world around us, right now. COVID-19 is out of control. Racial injustice in threatening to overtake the government if things don't change. And not to mention our own personal trials and tribulations that we're facing. Tragic deaths. Unemployment, etc. But believe it or not, we are covered!

Stay prayed up because not everybody is insured, nah! Be careful!

Those who like to hit and run or those who don't want to know God. Those are the ones who will make you feel as though everything that you're doing right in this world is completely wrong. They will twist up your words and they will make a mockery of your feelings. And it seems to always come from somebody who's quoting Shirley Chisolm or somebody. Baby, you ARE bothered!

Make it make sense to me because I can't seem to understand how can MY happiness and/or my willingness to better myself make you upset or miserable? Look at the Black Lives Matter movement, why are so many Human Beings angry? We aren't saying that it's ONLY black lives that matter, we're say that we DO matter. PERIOD!

Can you hear me, now?

Do you see me?

Do you really believe that my life matters less because I've been dipped in the melanin pool?

Why did it even have to come to this?

Is that why this country is so jacked up? We can't seem to get ahead in life because our happiness is threatening? On the backs of my ancestors was this country built. By the hands of my ancestors was this country clothed and fed. By the breasts of my ancestors were these babies nursed.

Open your eyes!

Open your ears!

Open your hearts!

I believe that there comes a point in your life when you've had enough, don't you think?

While y'all are waiting on the second round of stimulus checks, my ancestors are still waiting on their 40 acres and a mule!

Empty promises. Bounced checks. lower wages. harder work.

Being black is hard to do!

We, as a People, are tired beyond belief.

We have marched. We have prayed. We have protested. We have even educated ourselves enough to run this country and yet, here we are in 2020 still fighting... still praying... still getting murdered. Still running from danger... and still trying to survive and thrive in a country that enslaved us. Then they set us "free" into the world that was NOT created for us or by us and designed a system that would keep us enslaved in more ways than one and cripple a great many more.

My friend Christian ("The Millennial Mind" podcast check her out!) said it best, "That's not me living in the past, that's MY history!"

We. Are. Tired.

What we need now is COURAGE! Courage is NOT the absence of fear, in fact, it's the opposite. Remember in, "The Lion King" when Mufasa told Simba that he was scared when he thought he lost Simba to the hyenas? Courage is being afraid and still jumping anyway.

Courage is standing up for what you  believe in whether you have the support or not.

Courage is recognizing that something is far more important than fear.

Maya Angelou said, "Develop enough courage so that you can stand up for yourself and then stand up for somebody else."

And today, justice and equality needs to take a stand for all of humanity!

Courage is leaving a situation that no longer serves a purpose in your life. We often hold too tightly to things that are causing us more harm than good. Let it go. You didn't even realize that holding on that tightly was actually cutting off your circulation, did you?

I believe that a change is coming. Are you going to participate or react? I pray that you participate! (Stay tuned for that blog!)

I believe that this is all apart of God's plan for our lives. And as horrible as slavery was, we weren't buried. We were planted and because of that, we are blooming so beautifully.

We have the audacity of hope!

It's in the way we walk and the way we talk.

This is black excellence, Darling!

I am black girl magic.

I am the hope and the dream of the slave.

I am answered prayers and unbelievable miracles.

I am made in HIS image.

I am that pile of glitter in a room filled with dust.

You see that trailing behind me as I strut through life? That's God's grace and mercy following me all the days of my life.

"...And I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
And I'll rise up
High like the waves
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousands times again" ("Rise up" by: Andra Day)

And out of our bitter history, we will rise.

Without further adieu...

… it IS a pleasure to meet you!
